In
consequence of its fundamentally critical position towards violence the Church,
for a long time, has been calling for a consequent disarmament policy. Even
though the provision of military assets in the longer term will be necessary in
view of the current global political situation, it must be strictly ensured
that the procurement and export of arms do not counteract the aim of minimizing
violence. Consequent disarmament and arms control regimes are to be developed and
strengthened.

importance of nuclear armament and with the resulting challenges for peace
ethics and peace politics.
