In the
Treaty of Lisbon, the eradication of poverty and coherence of politics are specified
as concerns regarding the EU‘s international
responsibility. In the Cotonou Partnership Agreement signed in 2000 between
the European Union and the African,
Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) as well as in the Joint Africa-EU
Strategy good governance, participation and partnership are declared to be key
principles in this regard. As a member of the Association of German
Development NGOs (VENRO), the Justice and Peace Commission is involved in the working group ‘global
structural policy’ which also deals with the EU’s development policy.
