Since the
fundamental change of the global political situation in 1989/90, military
interventions have significantly increased – often justified on humanitarian
grounds. Despite the variety and diversity of missions, what they have in
common is a precarious potential for violence which necessarily requires public
monitoring and often also criticising. Though the Church does not fundamentally
rule out the use of military force, it generally always takes a critical view
of the use of force. Based on this attitude we try to make concrete
contributions to the public debate about military interventions and to overcome
tendencies to rely on military means.
