The service
to peace is an integral part of the Church’s identity. Pursuant to this
comprehensive understanding of peace, manifold peace services have developed. In
addition to different forms of voluntary work, these services to peace also
include development services as well as specialized civil peace services, and –
under certain conditions – the military service. The perspectives of the
different services occasionally are in tension with one another. For this
reason, the German Commission for Justice and Peace provides a permanent forum
for a constructive conciliation of these perspectives.
