Rights of Domestic Workers

After two years of negotiations, the International Labour Conference (ILC) during its 100th session on 16 June 2011 adopted the Convention 189 on Decent Work for Domestic Workers. In addition to Uruguay and the Philippines, Germany has also ratified the convention and thus is among the first ILO member countries that have signed the convention.
The German Commission for Justice and Peace accompanied the ILC negotiations in 2010 and 2011 in cooperation with different trade union, church and civil society partners in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. Together with the World Day of Prayer initiative, the Commission actively promoted the ratification in Germany.
